What is nutrition?

So, what is nutrition, it is component of food that we call nutrients and that it is how we should have a good lifestyle. Nutrients are substances that the body has for us to live and grow. There are various macronutrients we should have which include; proteins, fats and carbohydrates, some micronutrients found in vitamins and minerals and importantly water. This is the most essential nutrient that forms part of the cells in the body.

Nutrition and diet advice may seem a little bit overwhelming for some people. Some experts may say that certain foods can be good, but you may feel the complete opposite. Some foods or nutrients may show an impact on the effect of your moods. Nutrition researchers has a key that increases our information about obesity. Healthy eating doesn’t always have to be overly complicated.

Protein is a building block of the human body as it makes its own proteins such as enzymes, hormones and also antibodies, Protein is a chain, so it is made of amino acids they retrieve from eating various foods from animals and plants.

Also, it is important how much sugar we intake as there is a lot of added sugar in foods. Occurring sugar in foods are not a big problem but when sugars are extracted from there natural source then they are lacking nutrients [1].

Healthy eating

Healthy eating may start to feel less interesting when as we start to age, we may find we start to feel less hungry when we felt younger. It can seem very difficult to have the nutrients we need to maintain a good health. Two main reason for this could come from smoking and consuming alcohol that may affect our bodies to take in the correct nutrients. Also, as we start to get older medicines may affect our healthy lifestyle which can cause different kinds of cancer a few examples would be leukaemia, pancreas or kidney. Chronic diseases through smoking can damage our body too.

Therefore, we need to realise if we do not know already that it is important to have a varied diet. Making sure we have the right vitamins such as vitamin D. Vitamin D is typically consumed through diet or being out under the sun.

Balance

The portion sizes we give is usually an average for healthy adults, but it is based on there daily calorie allowance which should approximately be 2000 calories. If you are tall or very active then you should be consuming bigger portion sizes, bigger people will naturally have bigger portion sizes and smaller people will have smaller ones. There are so many different ways that you can healthily eat to maintain a good healthy balance by doing this you should balance food groups and having the correct portion size that is right for you.

A healthy diet focus on real fresh whole foods as they supply the things, we need such as vitamins, minerals, proteins, carbohydrates, fats and also fibre these are the most essential things we need to maintain a good health. Fast foods lack nutrients and they also contain saturated fats and sugar. They can cause diseases the main one being heart disease, high cholesterol and diabetes. A balanced diet should be a mix of different foods from the food group.

From each food group:

  • Fruit and vegetables: 5+ portions per day

  • Starchy carbohydrates: 3-4 portions per day

  • Beans, pulses, fish, eggs, meat and other proteins: 2-3 portions per day

  • Dairy and alternatives: 2-3 portions per day.

Change Behaviour Nutrition and health are a very challenging thing to do as there are a lot of facts that can influence us on what we eat and drink also on how active our lifestyle is. It is a way to encourage people mainly young adults to change their behaviours and start to impact on having a nutritional healthy lifestyle. If you do feel like you need to lose weight, then you need to think about making a huge change to your behaviour as to what you are eating and drinking. Start drinking more water and start going out more to exercise. A way to do is this is to check your BMI (Body Mass Index) so you know how many calories you should be eating in a day to help you lose the weight.
